This Friday, September 11, is the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks that resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people, including 415 first responders. There will be a remembrance ceremony held before the start of the Manchester High School football home game that night.

Angie Schaible, one of the organizers, stated, “First responders and veterans will get in free to the game that night. We have invited the Manchester Fire Department, Washtenaw County Sheriff Department, and HVA along with the American Legion to attend for the ceremony on the field.�

The Manchester Flying Dutchmen will be playing the Michigan Center Cardinals with kickoff at 7pm. Admission is $5 at the gate with senior citizens and 4 and under free.

Soccer season is just around the corner, and registration for Manchester Soccer Club (MSC) fall 2026 rec soccer is open. The season starts September 26 and runs until October 31. Teams will be broken down into U5 Little Kickers (born between August 1, 2021, and December 31, 2023), U7 (born between August 1, 2019, and July 31, 2021), and U9 (born between January 1, 2017, and July 31, 2019) age groups. Don’t hesitate to sign up your kids if they’ve never played soccer before — recreational soccer is all about fun and learning the game. Registration is open through August 31. To register, visit .

For 12 years, the Pistol Prodigies have been competing in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). SASP is a great nationwide youth-development program that uses the shooting sports to teach life skills. Our new season begins September 1. If you would like to learn more about the team, please join us at the Manchester Community Schools Open Houses at Riverside School and the Jr/Sr High School on August 25. We will also hold two informational meetings at the Manchester Sportsman Club (MSC) on Wednesday, August 26, and Thursday, August 27, both at 7pm. Returning team members wishing to shoot this season must attend August 26 OR August 27.

Some of the non-shooting highlights of our year. We love to support our communities. In the fall we participated in the Clinton Fall Festival Parade, Trunk-or-Treat at River Raisin Distillery, and Halloween in Manchester. This summer we worked with the Manchester Men Club to help clean up after the annual July 3 fireworks.

Our Senior Division athletes consisted of CJ, Drey, Noah, and Tori; Intermediates athletes were Ava, Brooke, Fisher, Hunter, Marcy, and Violet; and our Rookies were Alex, Bradley, Charlie, Dylan, Sadie, and Zaydin. Our youngest athlete was in third grade and our oldest was a high school junior.

Our Coaching Crew is Bodi, Jeff, Lisa, Mike, Scott, and Drey as our junior coach. Our Adult Volunteers are Gary, Jill, and Steve. Thank you for all of your hard work!

SASP holds competitions around the country. The Prodigies attended matches in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. It was a busy but rewarding year for us!

The Prodigies started off the season with The Valentine Classic Virtual Match. Our friends from The Leadslingers out of Chelsea shot this match with us at Brooklyn Sportsman Club. A virtual match is a nationwide match where you compete against teams around the country, shoot the assigned stages, and email the scores into National staff. After the scores are tallied, the medals are mailed out to the teams who earned them. The Prodigies received Three 1st-place with Rookie Optic Rifle, Rookie Iron Rifle, and Rookie PCC, and two 3rd-place medals with Open Division Optic Rifle and Open Division Iron Rifle. High Overall awards went to Drey for 3rd place in PCC for male, and for female, 1st for Ava, 2nd for Sadie, and 3rd for Tori. HOA for pistol 1st for Drey in males and 2ndÌýfor Ava in females.

The SASP Michigan State Match was held May 16 and 17 in our backyard of Brooklyn, Mich. You could say that we have a home field advantage as this is one of our regular practice facilities. There we won the following squad awards: three 1st place, one 2nd place, and five 3rd places.Ìý

Next was Wampum, Penn., for the PA State Match May 23 and 24. Our success continued with us winning the following squad awards: one 2nd place and two 3rd places. Individual HOA honors go to Tori with 3rd place for Rimfire Pistol Female.

The Cardinal Center in Marengo, Ohio, hosts both the OH State Shoot and the SASP National Championships. Our first stop was for the OH State Shoot June 13 and 14. There we earned the following squad awards: one 1st place, five 2nd places, and two 3rd places.Ìý

St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club in Sturgis, Mich., hosted our Great Lakes Regional Match June 27 and 28. This was our last competition before Nationals. And it was one of the best for us. We earned the following squad medals: five 1st places, three 2nd places, and two 3rd places. Individual HOAs went to CJ with 3rd place PCC.Ìý

Our 12th season wrapped up with a return trip to the Cardinal Center for the SASP National Championships. We competed with some of the best youth athletes from around the country. Many of these athletes, coaches, parents, and teams have become good friends. And we always enjoy seeing our extended family.

While Nationals is nine days, we competed over three days. Our performance at Nationals was great. Over 2,800 entries were shot, and we had the following Top 10 squad finishes: Rookie Optic Rifle 6th, Rookie Iron Rifle 5th, Intermediate Optic Rifle 9th, and Rookie PCC 4th. The Rookie Squads were in first and second place until the very last day.ÌýTop 10 Individual placings are as follows: Sadie earned two Top 10s for Rookie Division 5th in PCC and 10th in Optic Rifle; Ava earned several Top 10s Intermediate Advance Division placings 8th for Rimfire Pistol and Optic Rifle, 9th for PCC and 10th for Iron Rifle, and Bradley had a 10th-place finish in Rookie Optic Rifle. Congratulations!

The Top Gun Award is for athletes who shoot in both SASP and the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP). The award combines scores shot at Nationals from both programs to crown a winner. Drey is our only athlete who shoots both programs. When the smoke cleared, he earned a very respectable 9th place out of 40 of the best all-around athletes in the country.

The Pistol Prodigies are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This allows us to offset competition costs by holding fundraising events. Please be on the lookout for our annual Gun-A-Day Raffle coming up this fall.

Are you looking for a way to give back to the community while getting to attend high school sports in a very important role? MCS athletic director Tom Johns is putting out the call for announcers for high school sports hosted on campus here in Manchester, including for boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, baseball, softball, and volleyball. Track Camp returned this summer and was a great success! We wrapped up our three-day camp on Monday, June 22, with our Mini Meet. That was a chance for the kids to compete in the events we have learned about and trained in during the first two days of camp. To end the first day, our campers were challenged to a race against the state fastest man in Jayden Johnson. The campers had a little head start, but Jayden was still able to pull off the victory! Some of the campers made it tough on him and you can tell there some good speed in Manchester!

Thank you to all the coaches and high school athletes who helped put this camp on. Those coaches included Coach Stephanie Johnson, Coach Lindsey Hassett, Coach Cody Branner, Coach Liam Riley, Coach Laura Coltre, Coach Krista Scharpenberg, and Coach Faith Branner. Our athletes who helped were Siera Jedele, Caroline Mason, Alec Dodak, Teagan Clarke, Natasha Seaman, Drew Matthies, Thomas Cunningham, Ethan Hittle, Jayden Johnson, Ava Rentfro, Charlotte Williams, Evan Johnson, and Luke Dalton.

We changed it up this year and did a decathlon-style event to get the most well-rounded athletes. The older kids did a hexathlon in their age brackets and the youngest group did a pentathlon. It was a fun time to see all their hard work and what they learned at Track Camp! Medal results are below for the hexathlon. Hudsonville, Mi – Where do we start?! There were so many good things that happened Saturday May 30. It may go down as one of the best days in Manchester Track and Field history! The Boys team scored a school record 37 points at the State Meet to take fourth place overall and were only nine points away from the MHSAA State Championship. The previous record was 25 points in 2006 with a fifth place finish in D3. The Girls would score six points to place 30th, which is the most in a State Finals since 2021.

Jayden Johnson ran blistering PR in the 100m (11.03) and 200m (22.03) prelims to take the top seedings heading into the finals. He would take third in the 100m (11.06) and then follow that up with a 22.34 to win the 200m and be crowned State Champion! Jayden is Manchester third boy to achieve this rare accomplishment. Jeremy Davis in the 100m in 1993 and Jarod Sawyer in the High Jump in 2008 are the Boys other two State Champions in Track and Field. Kari Agin in 1982 (200m Hurdles) and 1983 (300m Hurdles) are our Girl State Champion. That was not the only thing Jayden did on the day. He would anchor our Boys 4x200m Relay team that would run a time of 1:31.82 which was good for 2nd place and the 2nd best time in School History. This team was also comprised of Ethan Hittle, Grant Johnson, and Gavin Lindeman. This team was also Metrics, Regional and Conference Champions this year so they were fast wherever they ran!

Our Hurdle Turtles had a great showing as well as we placed in both the 110m/100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles on both the Boys and Girls side. Grant Johnson equaled his PR time of 14.75 to take 2nd in the 110m Hurdles and was neck and neck in that race until the end. Siera Jedele was 8th after the prelim round but moved up to 4th place in the 100m Hurdles, in her 2nd best time of the season in 16.46. Last year, she had narrowly missed out on All-State in this event so it made it extra special today to make it to the Finals. In the 300m Hurdles, Grant would improve from his seeding to take 4th place in a time of 40.30. He improved his placing in both hurdles this year and times from a season ago. Siera would equal her 8th place in the 300m Hurdles from a year ago, but ran faster as she would run the 2nd best time of her career in 48.17.

Our Boys 4x800m Relay team of Cade Sayer, Justin Gale, Alec Dodak, and Gavin Horky would cut five seconds off their season best time (8:37.25) and move from 19th place in the seedings, all the way up to 11th overall which included a win in the 1st heat! They just missed the podium but ran really well! Their time is currently the 8th best time in school history. Our Girls 4x200m Relay team would cut off nearly a second and half to move up from 17th place to 11th place and just miss the podium by less than .9 seconds. They would win their heat by nearly 20 meters! The team of Elle Woods, Audrina Lauer, Valorie Hieber, and Siera Jedele would run a 1:52.21. The Boys 4x100m Relay team of Wesley Earhart, Ethan Hittle, Gavin Lindeman, and Jayden Johnson would move up from their 16th place seeding all the way to 12th. They would equal their season best time of 45.11 and only miss the podium and All-State Honors by .2 seconds.

Our Girls 4x400m Relay team of Elle Woods, Caroline Mason, Valorie Hieber, and Siera Jedele would run their second best time of the year in 4:24.95 and take their seeding place of 16th in a very competitive field. Valorie Hieber would run the 2nd best time of her career in the 300m Hurdles (50.91) for 22nd place. She would also run 17.82 in the 100m hurdles after only doing the event for a month to take 19th place. Teagan Clarke would vault 7’3 in PV despite dealing with a tricky wind. She had a great season and elevated her vaulting skills this year hitting her PR of 8’0 eight times!

Boys Track are D4 Team State Runner-up!Ìý Girls Top Ten for 2^nd Year in a Row!

Hillsdale, Mi – Manchester just graduated it 155^th Senior Class on Thursday May 21^st.Ìý In the School system entire history you can count on one hand the times that a Manchester athletic team has placed inside the top two at State competition as a team.Ìý Before 2013, everyone pointed to the 1993 Manchester Silverdome appearance and their runner-up finish to Iron Mountain in Manchester best Football season ever.Ìý In 2013, the Girl Basketball team went 27-1 and won the Class C State Championship. I’m not in the school right now to look at the banners, but there is at least one and maybe two Wrestling top twos at their Team States in the last 20 years. Outside of those, Manchester has not had many in school history.Ìý We have had a lot of great teams (across many sports), and others that ran up against some super teams, but not many that place top two in the whole State.Ìý On May 23^rd, 2026 you can add another one of those teams to that select group. The 2026 Manchester Boys Track Team has placed top two in D4 at their Team State!

The first person you have to start talking about on this team is Senior Grant Johnson.Ìý At the Team State, he would do four individual events and he would do well in all of them. He would take 2^nd in the Long Jump, 110m Hurdles, and 300m Hurdles.Ìý He would run against his biggest competition in a preview of next Saturday at the State Finals and he is right there.Ìý He would also take 9^th in the Discus.Ìý Our 2^nd person you need to talk about with this team is Junior Jayden Johnson who has had an outstanding season.Ìý He would go onto win the 200m in 22.70, take 5^th in the 100m, and anchor our 4^th place 4x100m Relay and 5^th place 4x200m Relay.

Now, those are the two you have heard the most about, but this is a Team State and it takes the whole team to win and this team proved that there are many more names that contributed to this team title! Justin Gale stepped up big time today as he would run on our 3^rd place 4×8 Relay which is normal for him, but he would run a PR in the 1600m in 4:59.10.Ìý He would then have to sub into the 800m because of injury where he would run a great time and pick up big points for our team.Ìý He would then run the 3200m where he would set a PR of 11:23.81.

Next up would be our distance warrior who has been feeling under the weather since Regionals week.Ìý He has had a very strong season, but this has set him back from what he is capable of.Ìý Even with that he was still able to rise to the occasion today.Ìý Alec Dodak would run a great leg on the 4×8 Relay.Ìý He would then run a solid 1600m and gut out a solid performance in the 3200m when he was not feeling the best.Ìý He did that for the team, and it made all the difference!

There were plenty of others that stepped up and rose to the occasion:

-Brennan Woods – 6^th place in HJ, 7^th place in the 400m, 15^th in the 200m, and would run a great lead off leg on the 4x400m Relay team that clinched the meet

-Michael Navitskis – 7^th in the 110m hurdles and 9^th in the 300m hurdles, and ran a great leg on the 6^th place 4×4 Relay on his Birthday!

-Gavin Lindeman – 9^th place in LJ, 13^th in the 200m, and ran great legs on the 4^th place 4×1 Relay and 5^th place 4×2 Relay

-Gavin Horky – 11^th place 800m and HJ, great anchor leg on the 3^rd place 4×8 Relay, and great anchor leg on the 6^th place 4×4 Relay

-Cade Sayer – 12^th in the 800m, great lead off leg on the 4×8 Relay that took 3^rd, and a great leg on the 4×4 Relay team that took 6^th

-Ethan Hittle – 14^th in the PV, solid in the 100m, and ran legs on the 4^th place 4×1 Relay and 5^th place 4×2 Relay

-Eli Finnegan – 15^th in PV, solid in LJ, and a PR in the 400m in 1:01.67

-Liam Pierce – would PR in the 1600m and run great in his last 3200m of his career and take 19^th

-Wesley Earhart – would run a solid 100m and start off the 4^th place 4×1 Relay and the 5^th place 4×2 Relay

-Brett Brother – threw solid in both the Shot Put and Discus on the last day of throwing of his career

-Lucas Brothers – threw solid in both the Shot Put and Discus and did his job

-Donte Johnson – did his job in High Jump to score big points

-Milo Ryan – threw a PR in Shot Put to do his job

-Max Harvey – ran his 400m to pick up his points for the team

Without any of these efforts, Manchester is not 2^nd place in the State.Ìý The Dutch finished with 1342 points.Ìý 3^rd place was Royal Oak Shrine with 1334.5.Ìý 4^th was Kalamazoo Hackett with their great Track pedigree and 1306 points.Ìý Gobles rounded out the top 5 with 1240 points.Ìý This was competitive and Manchester rose to the occasion!Ìý Manchester was the top Public School in all of D4 as Hillsdale Academy was the winners.Ìý This also marks the fourth week in a row with a trophy which is also a phenomenal stat!

On the Girls side, the scoring was well balanced even with the cold and rainy weather conditions, but a few stood out as the Girls team improved upon their 10^thplace power rankings as they would take 9^th overall in the meet and just a few points from finishing a couple spots higher.Ìý Siera Jedele would take 3^rd in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles.Ìý She would also anchor the 7^th place 4×2 Relay.Ìý Valorie Hieber would take 6^th in the 100m hurdles and 10^th in the 300m hurdles, as well as run a great leg on the 7^th place 4×2 Relay and 4×4 Relay.

Ava Rentfro would have a great day! She would throw a PR in the Disc of 92’7 to take 5^th, she would take 15^th in the Shot Put, and in a new event the 200m she would fill in and run a great time of 30.68 for 23^rd.Ìý Audrina Lauer is next up.Ìý She would take 4^th in LJ, 18^th in the 100m, and run on the 7^th place 4×2 and 8^th place 4×1.Ìý Elle Woods had a good day as she would take 10^th in the 400m, 19^th in the PV, and run on the 7^th place 4×2 and 4×4 Relays!

Teagan Clarke would take 11^th in the PV, 20^th in the Discus with a PR of 70’4, run a season best in the 1600m, and be on our 4×8 Relay! Natasha Seaman would take 12^th in the PV, 18^th in the 200m, 23^rd in the 100m hurdles, and run on the 8^th place 4×1 Relay. Olivia Woods would take 5^th in the LJ with a PR of 14’0.75, 11^th in the HJ, and be on the 8^th place 4×1 Relay as she closed out her Track career. Caroline Mason would run on our 4×8 Relay, take 20^th in the 1600m and 800m, and run on our 7^th place 4×4 Relay! Charlotte Williams would be on our 4×8 Relay, then run the most mileage you can in a track meet as she would run the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m in adverse conditions and she would rack up a ton of points for the team! Amanda Hieber stepped up today and she would run on our 4×8 Relay, take 26^th in the 400m, and 25^th in the 800m, then fill in on our 7^th place 4×4 Relay!

Abbi Austin would take 25^th in LJ, 26^th in the 100m, and be on our 8^th place 4×1 Relay in her last Track meet of her career. Isabella Rattray threw solid today in both the Shot Put and Discus as she closes out her Freshman season.Ìý Giuliana Brother would run two PRs in the 100m, and 400m, and she would also run the open 200m.Ìý Cordelia Matthies would throw solid in her last Shot Put of her career.

Dutch Hurdle Turtles Grab Four Selby Classic Crowns!

Jackson, Mi – The Flying Dutchmen ruled the hurdles and took all four first places as Grant Johnson and Siera Jedele would win the 110/100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles.Ìý They both would PR in the 110/100m Hurdles in times of 14.75 for Grant and 16.29 for Siera.Ìý Grant has the 2^nd fastest time in D4 and Siera has the 4^thfastest time in D4 this season.Ìý In the 300m Hurdles, they both would win as Grant would run under 40 seconds for the 2^nd straight race and Siera would run a half second PR down to 48.05 which is the 9^th best time in D4. Grant currently owns the 4^th best time in D4 in the 300m Hurdles. The Manchester Hurdle Turtles were rolling tonight! Valorie Hieber would take 2^nd in the 300m Hurdles with a one second PR down to 50.56 and she would also take 4^th in the 100m Hurdles.Ìý Natasha Seaman would take 7^th in the 100m Hurdles.

Our Boys 4x800m Relay of Cade Sayer, Justin Gale, Gavin Horky, and Brennan Woods would run nearly a three second PR as they would take a respectable 4^thplace in a time of 8:42.48. Cade Sayer ran a great lead off leg to keep pace with the fast competition. Natasha Seaman would equal her PR in PV as she would take 3^rd place with a vault of 8’0.Ìý Our Girls 4x400m Relay team would take 4^th with their second-best time of the season in 4:26.30.Ìý This was a team that consisted of Valorie Hieber, Caroline Mason, Natasha Seaman, and Siera Jedele.

Michael Navitskis would run a near PR time of 16.75 to take 5^th in the 110m Hurdles. Gavin Lindeman would jump a PR in Long to 18’10.5 which was good for 6^thplace.Ìý Brennan Woods would leap 5’8 in High Jump for 6^th place as well. Teagan Clarke equaled her PR in PV at 8’0 and would take 6^th.Ìý Grant Johnson would take 6^th in Discus with a throw of 119’9. Gavin Horky would take 7^th in High Jump with a leap of 5’8. Charlotte Williams would run a 30 second PR in the 3200m to take 7^th. Our Boys 4x100m Relay team with a fill in anchor leg would take 6^th place with a respectable time of 47.49. This team consisted of Wesley Earhart, Ethan Hittle, Gavin Lindeman, and Justin Gale who is normally a distance specialist.Ìý Ethan Hittle would PR in the PV with a vault of 10’6.
