Local Election Results; School Bond Passes with SINGLE VOTE

Many things were on the ballot yesterday, and for all the details, please check out the county election results page. 

But for those issues close to home, we can report the results simply enough. Laurie Carey retains her seat as Manchester Township Treasurer; Freedom Township will remain in the Manchester Library District (thus averting a painful $100,000 budget shortfall that would have radically altered the library); Manchester Village chose to repair the beleaguered Main Street Bridge; and the school won BOTH questions.

Manchester Community Schools will continue to be funded by its standing millage; AND in a tight vote, the technology bond passed with what appears to be a SINGLE VOTE. The school bond was victorious ONLY in the Village and in Freedom Township. It lost in Manchester Township, Bridgewater, Sharon, and among the few Jackson voters affected. The margin in the village kept the bond alive, but it was likely the three vote victory in Freedom Township, which saw an astonishing 38% turnout rate for this year’s election (likely because so many library supporters were drawn to the polls by the Library question), that put the bond over the top.

Every vote yesterday mattered.
