“The Distance” Opens in Manchester
Back In January of 2014 Sarah Andrews began going to Boot Camp classes and LOVED them. She loved the energy, loved that every workout was different, and loved that everybody could benefit from a Boot Camp-style workout.聽 Now, just one year later, Andrews聽has become a Certified Group Fitness Instructor and opened her own fitness gym here in Manchester called 鈥淭he Distance鈥.聽 Located at the corner of Main and Clinton streets she has a very visible downtown location with plenty of parking.
Andrews聽wanted to open The Distance in Manchester to share her love of聽Boot Camp classes.聽 She also wanted to give more people the opportunity to realize that by pushing boundaries, mentally and physically, they not only聽gain strength and endurance, they gain LIFE! The response to The Distance has been much greater聽than she ever expected.聽 Since opening on January 5 she is seeing nearly 100 people attending class each week.
Andrews says 鈥渕any people hesitate when they hear this is a High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT type of workout.聽 But we work together to customize the workout of the day to your fitness needs and stress that this is your workout at your pace.鈥澛 High Intensity Interval Training, simply put, means you work out in intervals alternating between activities that give you a high heart rate and activities that cause lower heart rates.聽 The rotation of the intervals or circuits can be customized to the individual as well as the intensity of the intervals.聽 This is a complete and total body work out focusing on cardio, strength, flexibility, and agility. These are no pressure workouts. 鈥淵our work out; your pace鈥 Andrews says 鈥淚 just give guidelines and you choose how you want to feel鈥.
This is not a typical gym where you show up and 鈥渉it the weights鈥. 聽When you show up it to attend an instructed class and classes are designed to be engaging and empowering. As people get more familiar with the HIIT workout, Andrews hopes to add some open gym time so class聽participants聽can come in and work through circuits on their聽own.
Because there is a 20 person max to each class, Andrews聽asks that you preregister for classes but you don鈥檛 have to commit to taking classes for any length of time. The Distance is run with a 鈥渄rop in鈥 philosophy.聽 Classes are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. 聽Andrews hopes to add more class times this summer in addition to adding yoga classes. 聽There is no membership. You can purchase an unlimited monthly pass or 鈥減unch鈥 cards for either 10 or 20 visits.
