National Doughnut Day is celebrated the first Friday of June, which this year falls on June 3rd. You won鈥檛 need to look any farther than Frank in the Morning at 104 East Main for a good place to celebrate it. Frank which makes their donuts fresh every morning they are open, will be opening their doors at 7 am. In honor of National Doughnut Day, they will be offering 1 free donut when you make a donation to the American Legion post 117.

While the connection between donuts and veterans may not be obvious at first, National Doughnut Day was started in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor the Salvation Army 鈥淒oughnut Dollies鈥 of World War I who travelled overseas, set up 鈥渉uts鈥 and served donuts to US enlisted men near the front lines.

Jessica Bushaw, of Frank in the Morning stated, 鈥淚 was excited when I learned National Doughnut Day had a historical significance.鈥 She added, 鈥淵es, I鈥檒l be making extras.鈥
