Did someone say doughnuts?

Preparing to serve doughnuts to trick-or-treaters on Halloween this year

Kathy Fusilier knows well that Manchester has come to be known as a “doughnut desert.” So she decided to do something about it.

On Halloween, she served homemade doughnuts in front of Emanuel Church to trick-or-treaters. It was so popular, she decided to do it on a regular basis. So for the past several weeks, and for several more weeks to come, she will be frying up doughnuts in the Emanuel kitchen from 8 to 10am each Saturday (unless there is a church event that prevents her use of the kitchen).

In those cases, Kathy will be posting on the Manchester Facebook sites. “Last week when there was a funeral at the church, I could not use the kitchen,” she explained. “So checking Facebook on Fridays is a good idea.��I don’t plan on canceling, but last week I couldn’t help that.”

The doughnuts are priced at a reasonable $1 apiece or $10 a dozen and are cinnamon-sugar flavored. Kathy said she likes to make a consistent amount each week so she doesn’t have too many or too few left over; so when they are gone, they are gone! Stop in early if you have a larger order. All proceeds will benefit Emanuel Church.

Serving is indoors for the winter, so you can enjoy your treats in warmth while you’re out for your Saturday morning walk with the family.

“At this time we don’t have a specific program earmarked for the funds,” Kathy explained, but that will be determined in the new year.

Fellow church members Mike and Dawna Stockwell have helped out with the setup and the baking process.

So while, baby, it may be cold outside, you won’t be sorry that you stopped in at Emanuel Church to warm up with a doughnut or two next Saturday morning — December 23. You might even want to stock up with a couple extra to leave on Santa treat tray!

We are a doughnut desert no more.
